‘If a story is in you, it has to come out.’
(William Faulkner)
I always thought that, as a writer, telling a story inspired by your real life experiences is a courageous thing to do.
What does it feel like when readers get through your story and they admit they found themselves in it? Knowing there is someone out there who lived similarly at some point of his/her life. Saying it’s fulfilling would be an understatement. What if we’re talking about those experiences that made you feel like you want to die? For example, knowing a person lost someone the same way it happened for you it’s heartbreaking. Apart from this, maybe, in this situation, a reader goes through the pain easier. Maybe you’re helping someone without realizing it.
Exposure. The best word to describe this. No more imagining scripts, but coming out ‘naked’ in front of the reader. ‘Naked’? Outrageous! No, it’s not. Writers, let’s be brave and put our real stories out there! We would be surprised at how many people understand us because their lives follow the same script as ours.
